Kathi Pelton: "Believe!" A Word for 2014

Kathi Pelton: "Believe!" A Word for 2014

Feb 16, 2014
[Most] blessed is the man who believes in, trusts in, and relies on the Lord, and whose hope and confidence the Lord is. Jeremiah 17:7
Each year the Lord gives me a single word for the upcoming year, and though normally these are very personal words for my family, this year the Lord made it clear that the word He spoke to me for 2014 is for all His children. That word is, "BELIEVE."
There is a saying, "Seeing is believing"; as Christians we are to believe in what we do not yet see. I believe that this is a year to truly exercise your ability to believe in what the Lord has spoken or promised and yet you do not currently see it. Although we are to live like this each and every day as His children, the Lord is emphasizing it for the year 2014.
 Good-bye Disappointment
Believing in what the Lord has spoken to you is the key to moving forward. When we take hold of a promise from the Lord and begin to believe in that promise, it seems that the first thing that happens is the enemy tries to steal our belief from us. He will come with seeds of doubt to try to take us from our place of faith to a place of unbelief.
But we must ask the Lord to forgive us for our unbelief and release us from the disappointments of past experiences. When we experience disappointment, it becomes easy to expect disappointment. The Holy Spirit is giving us a renewed gift of believing beyond past disappointments and the faith to move toward the promises that the Lord has spoken to us.
Now is the time to shake off disappointments and dread because they will only serve to keep you stuck. They are like quicksand, taking you deeper into disappointment and despair. Belief will allow you to move forward and rise above what your eyes see.
As you are lifted above what is before you (or behind you), you will begin to see what your Heavenly Father sees. He knows all that you need and how you are to walk it out. Seek the wisdom of the Spirit regarding the steps that you are to take and then begin to move forward, knowing that the Lord will make a way where there seems to be no way.
Isaiah 43:19: For I am about to do something new.
See, I have already begun! Do you not see it?
I will make a pathway through the wilderness.
I will create rivers in the dry wasteland.
 Help My Unbelief
In Mark 9:14-29, we read the story of a father whose son has been possessed by an evil spirit. This father understands the pain of disappointment and the unbelief that can follow years of hope deferred. He brings his son to Jesus and asks Him to heal his son "if" He can.
Why if? Because he has spent years watching his son tormented and this father has felt helpless and hopeless. When Jesus asks him about his unbelief, here is what the father says,
"I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!"
The Holy Spirit is happy to help us to overcome our unbelief; He is not unsympathetic to our sufferings or disappointments. The father in Mark 9 could have allowed his disappointment to keep him from bringing his son to Jesus, but he let the small seed of hope that still remained and brought it to the One who can do the impossible. If he had stayed home and put his faith in disappointment alone, his son would not have been healed. His hopes lead him to an appointment with healing, not to disappointment that had held his heart captive.
We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation. And this hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love. Romans 5:3-5
Believing is the key to open the door that stands before you. It will move you forward and put you back on the path that the Lord is making for you. I encourage you to renounce all agreement with expectation for disappointment. It is time to plant your seed of hope in the heart of your Savior and ask Him to help you overcome your unbelief. BELIEVE!!
 Standing with you!
